SARAH VARNER
Sarah Varner is an illustrator based in Portland, OR. She is currently attending Pacific Northwest College of Art for a bachelors in Illustration.
Her brand OBSCURA NOVA aims to give people access to a specific visual aesthetic that can be added to, or entirely replace, uninteresting everyday items. This comes inspired by the basis of the Art Nouveau movement from the turn of the 20th century, which similarly wanted to raise up commercial art to be visually pleasing for the masses.
OBSCURA NOVA derives its name from the concept of a “darker Art Nouveau.” The latin Obscura signifies darkness, which when paired with the latin word for new, Nova, constructs the “New Dark” name.
